Finding Your Perfect Fit
Why Proper Fit Matters
A properly fitted helmet is essential for: – Maximum safety protection in case of impact – Comfort during extended wear – Stability that keeps the helmet in place – Optimal ventilation and performance
A helmet that’s too large may shift or come off during an accident. A helmet that’s too small can cause discomfort and headaches.
How to Measure Your Head
Follow these simple steps to find your correct helmet size:
Step 1: Get a Flexible Measuring Tape
You’ll need a soft, flexible measuring tape (like a tailor’s tape). If you don’t have one, you can use a piece of string and then measure it against a ruler.
Step 2: Position the Tape Correctly
Place the measuring tape approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) above your eyebrows and wrap it around the widest part of your head. The tape should: – Sit above your ears – Pass across the center of your forehead – Rest on the most prominent part of the back of your head
Important: Keep the tape level and snug, but not tight. It should feel like a comfortable headband.
Step 3: Record Your Measurement
Note the measurement in centimeters (cm) where the tape meets. If you’re between sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size for comfort.
Step 4: Check the Size Chart
Use your head circumference measurement to find your helmet size in the charts below.

How to Properly Fit Your Helmet
Once you receive your helmet, follow these steps to ensure a proper fit:
1. Position on Head
- Place the helmet level on your head
- The front edge should sit 1-2 finger widths above your eyebrows
- The helmet should not tilt forward or backward
2. Adjust the Fit System
- Use the rear adjustment dial (or fit system) to tighten the helmet
- The helmet should feel snug but comfortable
- It should not move when you shake your head side to side
3. Adjust the Straps
Side Straps: – Form a “V” shape under each ear – The junction should sit just below your earlobe
Chin Strap: – Buckle the chin strap – Adjust so you can fit one or two fingers between the strap and your chin – The strap should be snug but not choking
4. Test the Fit
Shake Test: – With the chin strap fastened, shake your head side to side and up and down – The helmet should stay in place without shifting – Your skin should move with the helmet (not slide underneath)
Roll-Off Test: – With the chin strap unbuckled, try to roll the helmet off your head by pushing up from the back – A properly fitted helmet should resist coming off
Comfort Test: – Wear the helmet for 10-15 minutes – It should feel comfortable with no pressure points – If you experience discomfort, adjust the fit system or try a different size
Between Sizes? Here’s What to Do
If Your Measurement Falls Between Two Sizes:
Choose the LARGER size if: – You plan to wear the helmet for long periods – You have thick or long hair – You wear the helmet over a beanie or cap (winter cycling/skiing) – You prefer a more comfortable, less restrictive fit
Choose the SMALLER size if: – You prefer a snug, performance-oriented fit – You have thin or short hair – You want maximum stability for aggressive riding/skiing – The helmet has significant adjustment range (check product specs)

Special Considerations
For Children (BEAM, SPARK, and RIDE XS/S)
- Measure carefully: Children’s heads grow quickly, so measure just before ordering
- Room to grow: The SPARK single-size design offers flexibility for growing kids
- RIDE for young children: The XS and S sizes are perfect for younger kids who skate or scooter
- Recheck fit regularly: Check the fit every few months as your child grows
- Replace when needed: If the helmet becomes too small, it’s time for a new one
For Long Hair
- Wear your hair in your typical style when measuring (ponytail, bun, etc.)
- Consider how you’ll wear your hair with the helmet
- You may need to go up one size if you have very thick or voluminous hair
For Winter Use (AVALON Ski Helmet)
- If you wear a thin beanie or headband under your helmet, measure with it on
- The AVALON helmet is designed to accommodate light headwear
- Don’t wear thick hats under your helmet—this compromises safety and fit
For Glasses Wearers
- All HELMIFY helmets are compatible with glasses
- Make sure to wear your glasses when testing the fit
- Adjust straps to ensure they don’t interfere with your glasses’ temples
Adjustment Features
All HELMIFY helmets include:
Rear Adjustment System: – Easy-to-use dial or slider mechanism – Allows fine-tuning of fit – Adjusts the internal cradle for a custom fit
Adjustable Straps: – Side straps can be repositioned for optimal ear placement – Chin strap length is adjustable – Quick-release buckle for easy on/off
Removable Padding: – Interior padding can be removed for washing – Helps maintain hygiene and comfort – Available in different thicknesses (contact us for options)
When to Replace Your Helmet
Replace your helmet if:
- After any significant impact (even if there’s no visible damage)
- After 3-5 years of regular use (materials degrade over time)
- If it no longer fits properly (especially for growing children)
- If there are visible cracks or damage to the shell or foam
- If straps or buckles are damaged and cannot be repaired
Safety First: A helmet can only protect you once. After an impact, the foam is compressed and cannot provide the same level of protection.

Measurement Tips & Tricks
Don’t Have a Measuring Tape?
Use a string method: 1. Wrap a piece of string or ribbon around your head (following the same positioning as described above) 2. Mark where the string meets 3. Lay the string flat and measure with a ruler 4. Convert to centimeters if needed (1 inch = 2.54 cm)
Measuring for a Team or Group?
For bulk orders: – Have each person measure their own head – Collect all measurements in a spreadsheet – Send the list to support@helmify.com – We’ll help you determine the size breakdown for your order
Common Measurement Mistakes to Avoid
❌ Measuring too high (on top of head) → Results in incorrect size ❌ Measuring too tight → May lead to choosing a smaller size than needed ❌ Measuring over thick hair without considering daily style → May affect fit ❌ Not measuring at the widest part → Inaccurate measurement
✅ Correct: Measure 1 inch above eyebrows, around the widest part of the head, level all around
