Protecting Your Custom Design
Print Care
Your personalized design is created with durable, weather-resistant inks, but proper care will keep it looking vibrant:
Do: – Clean gently with soft cloths –
Use mild soap and water only –
Pat dry or air dry –
Store away from direct sunlight when not in use
Don’t: – Use abrasive cleaners or scrubbing pads –
Apply stickers or tape over custom designs –
Expose to harsh chemicals or solvents –
Leave in direct sunlight for extended periods when not in use
UV Protection
- Store helmet indoors when not in use
- Avoid leaving in car windows or direct sunlight for prolonged periods
- UV exposure over time can fade colors (though our inks are UV-resistant)
Storage
Proper Storage Conditions
Location: – Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight – Avoid extreme temperatures (below 0°C or above 40°C) – Keep away from heat sources (radiators, heaters, car dashboards) – Store away from chemicals, solvents, and petroleum products
Position: – Place helmet on a shelf or hook – Do not store heavy objects on top of helmet – Avoid crushing or deforming the shell – Use a helmet bag for added protection (ensure helmet is dry first)
What to Avoid: – Car trunks or enclosed vehicles in hot weather –
Damp basements or humid environments –
Direct sunlight or UV exposure –
Near chemicals, gasoline, or cleaning products
Safety Inspections
Regular Checks
Before Each Use: – Inspect shell for cracks, dents, or deformation – Check straps for fraying or damage – Ensure buckles function properly – Verify adjustment systems work correctly – Test that padding is secure and intact
Monthly Inspection: – Examine all components thoroughly – Check for any signs of deterioration – Ensure custom design/printing is intact – Verify certification labels are legible
Signs of Wear
Replace Your Helmet If You Notice: – Cracks or dents in the shell – Deformed or crushed areas – Loose or damaged straps – Broken buckles or adjustment mechanisms – Deteriorated padding or foam – Any compromise to structural integrity
When to Replace Your Helmet
After an Impact
Critical Rule: Replace your helmet immediately after any significant impact, even if no visible damage is apparent.
Why? – The EPS foam core is designed to absorb impact energy by compressing – Once compressed, it cannot provide the same level of protection – Internal damage may not be visible from the outside – Your safety depends on the helmet’s full protective capacity
Even Minor Impacts: – If you drop your helmet from a significant height – If the helmet experiences any forceful blow – When in doubt, replace it—your safety is worth more than the cost
Age and Wear
Recommended Replacement Timeline: – Every 3-5 years with regular use, even without impact – Every 5-7 years with occasional use – Sooner if you notice any signs of wear or deterioration
Why Replace? – Materials degrade over time due to UV exposure, temperature changes, and normal wear – Adhesives and foam can deteriorate – Safety standards and technology improve over time
Manufacturer Guidelines
- Follow all manufacturer recommendations for replacement
- Check certification labels for any specific guidance
- Contact HELMIFY support if you have questions about helmet condition
Winter Use & Special Conditions
Cold Weather Care
Skiing and Winter Activities: – Allow helmet to warm gradually to room temperature before cleaning – Moisture from snow can accumulate—dry thoroughly after each use – Check that cold temperatures haven’t made straps or buckles brittle
Storage in Winter: – Never leave helmet in freezing car overnight – Avoid rapid temperature changes (can cause condensation) – Ensure helmet is completely dry before storing
Wet Conditions
After Rain or Snow: – Shake off excess water – Remove padding and dry separately – Wipe down shell and allow to air dry completely – Check that water hasn’t entered LED battery compartments (if applicable)
Hair and Hygiene Considerations
Long Hair
- Tie hair back before putting on helmet to prevent tangling in straps
- Avoid pulling hair through ventilation holes
- Clean padding more frequently if you have long hair
Hygiene Tips
- Wash hair regularly to reduce oil and dirt transfer to padding
- Consider wearing a thin cycling cap or beanie under helmet (ensure proper fit is maintained)
- Clean padding regularly to prevent odor buildup
- Allow helmet to air out between uses
Traveling with Your Helmet
Packing
Best Practices: – Pack helmet in a protective bag or case – Place in carry-on luggage when flying (avoid checked baggage) – Surround with soft items to prevent crushing – Never pack heavy items on top of helmet
Helmet Bags: – Use a breathable helmet bag for protection – Ensure helmet is completely dry before packing – Avoid plastic bags for long-term storage (can trap moisture)
Transportation
- Secure helmet properly when transporting on bike racks or in vehicles
- Avoid leaving in hot cars
- Protect from direct sunlight during transport
